he owner of Cannon Beach Hotel Lodgings, Stephen Tuckman,
owns a fabulous waterfront home on Sanibel Island, three
miles off the Gulf Coast of Florida—and accessible
by car via a beautiful causeway. Served by a major international
airport, the home is a unique little slice of paradise and
Stephen rents it to discriminating, non-smoking visitors
when he is not there.
Famous as a 'sanctuary island', there is a reverence for
native flora and fauna. Few sidewalks or street lights and
no traffic signals, plus thousands of palm trees constantly
remind you you're on a tropical island. Miles of paved bike
paths wind through wetlands, tropical forests, nature preserves
and small retail areas with dozens of great restaurants,
open-air cafes, boutiques and art galleries. Casa
de la Pura Vida (Home of the Pure Life) is
on a private shell road on the shore of Dinkin's Bayou.
Half the island is wildlife refuge, harboring a huge variety
of wading shorebirds such as roseate spoonbills. Nesting
ospreys, bald eagles, pelicans, dolphins, alligators, otters,
manatees, raccoons and land tortoises are everywhere—and
most can be seen right from Stephen's home. The south side
of the island faces the Gulf of Mexico and its white sandy
beaches, which are world-renown for incredible shelling.
The north side is fringed with mangroves and faces toward
gentle, salt-water bayous. Click

There is excellent fishing from the small dock at the house:
catch-and-release only. Stephen has caught a dozen species
on a fly rod. The home has an open floor plan with terrazzo
floors and includes two bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms,
a Florida Room, den and fabulous waterfront views from everywhere.
It sleeps six (two on a sofa-sleeper). Nothing is better
than lying in the heated pool at night watching the moonlight
twinkling on the rippling bayou waters a few feet away—total
magic!
From December until the end of March the home is rented
for a minimum of one month, and in two-week blocks for the
rest of the year. For information on renting the
home, please call Laurel Burnsed any time on her cell phone
